J. Guadalupe Valtierra is a life-long Northwest Indiana resident and is excited to rejoin Purdue University as an Extension Educator for Community Development in Lake County.

Valtierra is committed to community empowerment and has facilitated seminars, roundtable discussions, and trainings to promote advocacy, education and engagement across the community spectrum. He has served on several Boards of Trustees and Directors, such as the Higher Learning Commission, the Boys & Girls Club of Northwest Indiana, the Diocese of Gary Catholic Charities, Gary Neighborhood Services, Indiana Campus Compact, Indiana Latino Institute, Indiana Minority Health Coalition, KIPP LEAD College Prep Board, the Quality of Life Council and the Urban League of Northwest Indiana.

Valtierra served as Chancellor of the seven-county northwest region of Ivy Tech Community College and was recognized as the Inaugural “Social Equity Award” Recipient by the Northwest Indiana Quality of Life Council.  He received the Inaugural Indiana University Alumni Association Distinguished Latino Alumni Award, and is an inductee in the Gary Steel City Hall of Fame.

Valtierra, an Attorney Member of the Indiana Bar holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Indiana University School of Law – Bloomington and a Masters in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University.  His undergraduate degree in Secondary Education was earned at Purdue University, West Lafayette.  He is a Trustee with Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting, Indiana, and is proud to be a Purdue Upward Bound TRiO graduate from Gary Emerson High School.
